About Rose Schoonhoven
Rose Schoonhoven is an award winning documentary filmmaker from Cambridge Station, Nova Scotia, whose work focuses on environmental issues and nature. Passionate about creating immersive experiences through film she aims to challenge fear-based environmental narratives by fostering empathy and connection to inspire positive change. She has screened her films in Canada, the U.S, and Europe,
She was recently a finalist for best short documentary at the Moscow Food & Wine Festival. This March her short film Wild Bumblebees played in select Cineplex’s across the province as a part of the AIFF Kid’s School Tour. This past fall, her documentary on food forests filmed in Scotsburn, NS, Roots for Change took home the inaugural Amuse Bouche Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Devour Film and Food Festival. In 2023, her short film Between the Tides earned the Linda Joy Award.
Her early work includes Bees of the Valley which premiered in 2017 at the Devour Film and Food Festival and in 2016 she made her debut documentary Leftovers that won the Nourish Nova Scotia Film Challenge.
